A very serious mural for a very Serious Pizza

We had a great opportunity to create a mural to one very iconic Deep Ellum pizzeria - "Serious Pizza" -, the biggest pizza in town 'literally' you can order  18" 24" or 30" size pizza! no joke people need SUVs to transport their pizzas back home lolz and not to forget they're absolutely delicious!.

Serious' staff are the fucking coolest people in the face of the earth! those ladies and Gents rock, I had an absolute blast working on this mural. Mad props to Mike for running such a great establishment and being a cool dude all around a true rockstar.

For my mural concept I wanted a very serious subject and applying it to pizza being the key to the mural, I decided to places the pizza front and center, well I think we all did making it almost a religious experience lols, well at least that's how I feel...pizza is fucking good! anyways here is my original concept for this project.

but it did feel a little unbalance well a bit heavy in one side so with a more balance concept it was submitted for approval.

  Once approved it was right to work, the wall is 8' x 16' making it a big challenge of awesomeness, Josh really helped by teaming on the buffing of the wall making my life a lot easier, due to texture of the wall being so harsh  it was very difficult to work with, but once buffed create all my sketch with spraypaint making super easy to work, with the sketch finally on the wall is right to adding all the basic colors first, blending second, fading, shadows, lights, blah blah etc. but I decided to just go for it finishing section by section to avoid going up and down the ladder more then need.

At the end I was very happy with this mural and can't wait for people to enjoy it for many many years to come while eating a delicious giant pizza with a cold beer.

Tunnelvisions Preview

The Deep Ellum Community Association is proud to announce the "TunnelVisions 2014" mural unveiling, awards presentation, and live auction on May 17, 6pm - 10pm, at 2625 Main Street in Deep Ellum, TX.

Throughout the weekend of the Deep Ellum Arts Festival in April 2014, mural artists from across the city were assigned 4-hour time slots to paint 4' x 8' panels, to be attached to a 12' wide, 8' tall, 32' deep, pop-up, walk-through TUNNEL, invoking the old Good Latimer TunnelVisions project.

The celebration will include the fully assembled TUNNEL unveiling at 6pm, with judging from 6pm - 8pm. An awards ceremony and a live auction of all pieces will immediately follow.

50% of auction proceeds goes into future Deep Ellum murals, and 50% goes to the ARTIST!

Prizes to be awarded include: 1st place $1500; 2nd place $750; 3rd place $250; and aPeople’s Choice Award (which includes a free night at the Omni Hotel).

This exciting project also serves as the launch of the upcoming MADE (Mural Art Deep Ellum) Iinitiative sponsored the the Deep Ellum Community Association, with major announcements coming soon.

Genograffic 3 is an art exhibition featuring the artwork of Hatziel, Jeru, and Ray Albarez. Inspired by the graffiti and urban landscapes, these three artists have fused their past experiences and present surroundings to bring to you their own interpretation of Art's future. The spontaneity and sometimes-premeditated process of their artwork have led them through different routes to further evolve their art and find their meaning.

Jeru Gabriel often describes his own work as a blend of order with chaos. Using a mixture of realism and surrealism, pop and graffiti, typography and a playfully bright color palette, his work is more about the spontaneous creation he experiences in the moment and the visual response by the viewer once the art is complete. Jeru draws inspiration from his own hobbies and interests that include a wide range of music, film, and comic books. His work gravitates more towards delivering a fun visual experience rather than attempting to convey a story.

Ray Albarez is inspired by his strive for excellence in craftsmanship and delivering a single important, but often forgotten message. Where most painters are searching for perfection or political insight, Ray Albarez enjoys the process of painting and connecting with his subject matter. His sole intention for this collection is to enjoy each step and find the same feeling as a graffiti vandal and child of simply having fun.

Hatziel’s work explores the relationship between postmodern discourse and emotional memories. With influences as diverse as Machiavelli and Francis Bacon, new variations are crafted from both explicit and implicit meanings. Ever since he was a child the traditional understanding of the human condition has fascinated him. What starts out as contemplation soon becomes corroded into hegemony of futility, leaving only a sense of unreality and the unlikelihood of a new synthesis. As spatial derivatives become distorted through boundaried and critical practice, the viewer is left with a clue to the edges of our existence.

Ultimately, Genograffic is a collection of artwork that brings each artists own style and purpose for you to view, construe, debate, and repute.


White Space is Dallas’ first venue to integrate gallery space with a full-service corporate meeting and events facility, offering artists exposure to a nationwide audience and business teams an inspiring environment where they can create, explore and express their best ideas. Deep Ellum TunnelVisions

I had a chance to paint along some of Dallas key Artists in a Mural Tournament hosted by Deep Ellum Texas Community, They allowed all artists to express their creative talents on a 4' x 8' wood panel in a 4 hour time limit, With great artistic company the pressure was on.

I did do some homework made sure that I didn't go empty in the head and this was my study and prep for the piece that I was going to create.

In the the first 45 min I made sure that all the grays had been placed in their proper space, using a mix between aerosol and latex acrylic the execution moved smoothly allowing plenty of time to finish the piece right.
